This paper describes three examples of innovative tall building designs undertaken
by the authors’ firm in Australasia. These involve the design of building
structures up to 88-storeys and as a multi-discipline group, the firm’s innovations
have embraced structural, M&E, fa&ccedil;ade and fire engineering disciplines.
The paper describes a number of innovative stability designs for tall buildings
with minimum impact to the functional planning. The first case study
involves a novel off-set outrigger stability concept, for the Aston Apartment
building in Sydney. Further case studies are the 88-storey Eureka Place
Apartment Tower currently being designed for Melbourne’s Southbank and the
86-storey World Tower building currently under construction in Sydney.ustralia

Evolving Technology for Tall Concrete Structures

本帖最后由 三T上人 于 2016-7-22 20:38 编辑 <br /><br />With the placement of over 2000 metric tons of single piece Welded Reinforcement Grid (WRG) confinement reinforcement in a sixty-story building in San Francisco, California USA, a milestone will be reached in the twenty year development of WRG technology. Constructability issues encountered in conventional confinement reinforcement are examined and the solution provided by WRG for reducing congestion. Reports of construction savings by use of WRG are highlighted, ranging from a reduction in: steel weight, concrete component dimensions and installation labor requirements. Design issues with regard to concrete design options and overall structural ductility and performance are addressed, calling on the results from recent shake table tests which show that when WRG is used as boundary element confinement, it is safe to design low rise concrete shear walls with fifty percent (50%) less vertical reinforcement. Evolving technology is discussed with focus on two areas of major development; high strength concrete (HSC) and “green” building. HSC test specimens reinforced with high strength WRG are reported as well as the application of WRG to an energy saving return air plenum within hollow concrete floor systems; revealing the versatility and economy of this evolving technology for the design and construction of structures. Seismic Design of Tall Buildings

1.0 Introduction and Background
1.1 Overview
There is a resurgence of construction of high rise and ultra-high rise buildings around the
world. The design of these tall buildings in seismically active regions varies dramatically
from region to region Whereas rigorous performance-based assessments are required in
some countries, including Japan and China, many other countries do not require anything
beyond a traditional design based on force reduction factors.
The objective of this Guide is to set out best practice for the seismic design of high-rise
buildings anywhere in the world. Best practice for high-rise buildings is not represented by
the traditional design codes such as the Uniform Building Code [ICBO, 1997] or its
successor, the International Building Code [ICC, 2006]. Whilst these codes are referenced for
the design of high-rise buildings in many countries, in part because the UBC still forms the
basis for many national building codes, they are not suitable for the design of high-rise
buildings for the following reasons:
1) They were developed for application to low and medium-rise buildings [and the
framing systems used in those buildings] and not for the modern generation of tall
buildings.
2) They permit only a limited number of structural systems for buildings taller than 49m
in height, which are not economic for buildings of significantly greater height, and do
not include systems that are appropriate for many high rise buildings
3) Rules appropriate at or below 49m are not necessarily valid at 100+m in height
4) The use of elastic response analysis with force reduction factors (denoted R in the
United States) for strength design is inappropriate for buildings where several modes
of vibration contribute significantly to the seismic response along each axis of a
building.
